I’ve exchanged money at banks before. Big mistake.

Lost like $80 on a simple USD to CAD exchange because I didn’t know better.

So here’s what I learned about currency exchange in Vancouver.

Before I go into details, here’s how the popular places stack up:

They’re at 1771 Marine Drive in West Vancouver. And they handle regular foreign currency exchange, not just crypto. You can exchange your US dollars for Canadian cash.

Yeah, some people complain about verification. But that’s every currency exchange services place now.

These guys consistently offer great rates in Vancouver. Located at 525 W Pender St.

But their online tools? Not great. Can’t check the exchange rate in Vancouver at midnight.

Another solid choice with competitive rates. They’re at 147 16th St W.

Less famous than others though.

30+ years in business. Multiple locations including Richmond.

But man, the wait times. Bring a book.

Here’s my system for exchanging money:

Step 1: Check rates online first. Screenshot them.

Step 2: Compare at least 3 places. Banks always lose.

Step 3: Ask about fees upfront. Some places hide them in bad rates.

Step 4: Consider order online options if available.

Common exchanges people need:

I get it. Your local bank is convenient.

But here’s the thing: banks offer terrible foreign exchange rates.

They know you’ll pay for convenience. That $5 fee turns into $50 when you factor in their awful rate.

ATM withdrawals abroad? Even worse. Extra fees everywhere.

After trying different places, here’s what counts:

I use ChicksX for most exchanges now.

But if I’m downtown anyway? Gastown works great.

For sending money internationally or cross border stuff? VBCE has the experience.

And I never, ever exchange at airports. Worst exchange rates Vancouver has to offer.

Not all currency exchange Vancouver places stock everything.

Common ones they all have:

Weird ones? Call ahead. Or order foreign currency online if they offer it.

If you want the leading foreign exchange experience:

ChicksX suits me because I hate being restricted by business hours. Your needs might be different.

But whatever you do, stop letting banks rip you off on currency exchange rates in Vancouver.

You work hard for your money. Don’t lose it on bad exchanges.
